Methodology
How We Score
Every platform on this site is scored 1 to 10 against the same six criteria. Scores are justified from public evidence (documentation, pricing pages, changelogs, user reports) and our own hands-on evaluation, and we update them as platforms change. No platform pays for a score.
Ease of build
How fast a non-engineer gets from a blank project to a working app. A 1 means the platform needs developer-level setup before anything useful exists. A 10 means a first usable version is live within hours, with no code and little documentation reading required.
Why it matters
Build speed sets the real cost of the project. A platform that takes three weeks to produce a first version has already burned more budget than most license fees.
Production readiness
Whether an app built on the platform can be put in front of real users. We look at authentication, user permissions, and reliability under normal day-to-day load. A 1 means demos only. A 10 means sign-in, role-based access, and stable behavior come standard.
Why it matters
A prototype that cannot face real users is a sunk cost, not an asset. This score tells you whether the demo you built can actually ship.
Maintainability
How manageable the app stays after launch: whether changes can be made safely, whether someone new can pick up the project, and whether the build degrades into something only its original author understands. A 1 means a fragile one-person artifact. A 10 means structured, documented, and hand-over ready.
Why it matters
Most platform regret shows up in year two, when the app needs to change and cannot. The launch is the cheap part; the next forty edits are the expensive one.
Security & access control
Whether the platform protects data by default: authentication options, role and row-level permissions, and how exposed business data is to misconfiguration. A 1 means security is your problem to bolt on. A 10 means granular access control is built in and hard to get wrong.
Why it matters
One permissions mistake in front of a client costs more than every license fee combined. Buyers handling customer data should weight this criterion above the others.
Data & integrations
What the platform can connect to: databases, external data sources, and third-party APIs. A 1 means data lives in a closed internal store with no practical way in or out. A 10 means native connectors for common databases and tools plus a usable API for everything else.
Why it matters
Almost no business app starts from empty tables. If the platform cannot read the spreadsheet, CRM, or database you already run on, you rebuild your data instead of your workflow.
Design flexibility
How far the visual output can move from the platform defaults: layout control, theming, custom components, and whether the result can match an existing brand. A 1 means every app looks like the template. A 10 means pixel-level control when you want it.
Why it matters
For internal tools this barely matters. For anything a client or customer sees, a template-shaped app quietly signals that the product behind it is template-shaped too.
How scores are set

Each score combines public evidence (documentation, pricing pages, changelogs, user reports) with our own hands-on evaluation of the platform.
- 2
Every score ships with a written note that justifies the number and explains the deduction. If we score a platform 6.5, the scorecard says where the 3.5 points went.
- 3
No platform pays for placement, and no platform can pay to change a score. Vendors can flag factual errors; the evidence decides whether anything moves.
